A Green Christmas

The children and staff of Scoil San Phroinsias are busy thinking of ways to have a "Green Christmas". If you have any good ideas about how to be kind to the environment this Christmas, please let us know by email at ssp.start2004@gmail.com. Míle buíochas libh. From the Coiste Glas.

An Nollaig

Today we took pictures of the crib at the front of the school. One photo has some words as Gaeilge. We took these photos because, as we all know, Christmas is coming soon!!!

8th of December

To celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, all the classes from 1st up to 6th went to mass. For Catholics, this day is a holy day and we go to mass. We sang lots of Advent Hymns and we sang a special song for Holy Mary. Mary's mother was Saint Anne.

Well done, and thank you, to all the children of Scoil San Phroinsias who recently filled shoe boxes with treats for children in other countries. As you can see from the photos, lots of boxes were collected!

Every year, the Tirellan Resident's Association, publishes a calendar, which they distribute to all the houses and businesses in the area. The children of Rang 5 and Rang 6 in Scoil San Phroinsias do the art work. Congratulations to this year's winners. 4 pictures were chosen-one for each season.
The prizes this year were presented by the Mayor of Galway, Padraig Conneelly.

Winter Arrives

Welcome back to all the students and teachers after a lovely mid-term break. As winter begins, the children in Scoil San Phroinsias continue their war against litter. Today saw Ms. Farrelly's 6th class scouring the clós and school grounds for litter. You can see them in action in their class blog. We hope that everyone plays their part in keeping our school clean and litter free. All the children in Scoil San Phroinsias are learning a rap about keeping our school clean. The rap was composed by Adam Forde in 1st class. You can read the rap on our green school blog.

As the new school year gets underway, so too does the new Green School's Committee, An Coiste Glas. The committee this year will be made up of class representatives from 1st to 6th classes, aswell as 2 teachers. Their job is to encourage everyone in Scoil San Phroinsias to reduce, re-use and recycle. They will be coming up with some novel ideas of how to do this over the coming weeks, I'm sure! This year, the Coiste Glas hope to involve the infant classes more, and to this end we welcome Ms. Sands aboard the coiste. Regular updates about the green activites of the school will be posted on the Green School Blog.
